My Pause Before the Storm
I’m sitting in my quiet living room, a snoozing dog at my side and a mug of hot coffee steaming on the table in front of me. The mug is lilac-coloured, with ‘I Love My Auntie’ on it. Outside my window everything is grey and white. Snow is falling softly, a trailing off of the blizzard that covered up spring last night and reminded us that here in the Canadian prairie, winter is not yet done with us.
This is my quiet pause before I open my news apps to see what new insanity Trump and his evil carnival clowns has for us today; what buffoonery, what chaos, what malicious disregard for anyone but themselves. Yesterday, Trump once again threatened us with untenable tariffs and doubled-down with a threat that, if we retaliated, he would make it worse for us. Who does he think we are? We are not craven Republican house and senate members whimpering for his largesse. We are not suck-up billionaires pandering to his vanity. We are not his MAGA base stuttering, “but, but, but you said you’d be our daddy!”
We’re generally a pretty easy-going group of folks up here in the Great White North. We like to get along with our neighbours. We like to share and build a better life for us all.
But Trump has pissed us off and we will not back down. As Mark Carney quietly reassures us, nous sommes maîtres chez nous - we are masters in our own house. I am relieved to have his steady hand on our helm as we ready ourselves for the storm.
On both sides of the border, we are all going to suffer from Trump’s megalomania, but good will prevail.
Meanwhile, we will stay calm and Carney on.

Thank you for sharing your calm. It's appreciated.
I particularly love stay calm, and Carney on. Maybe it should be a sweatshirt or a T-shirt slogan.
